Why Visit the footfunction™ centre

Feet that function poorly can result in symptoms almost anywhere in your body including (but not exclusively);

  • Pain in the ball of your foot, for example; Neuroma or Metatarsalgia
  • Mid foot or arch pain, for example; tendon and muscle pulls
  • Heel pain including plantar fasciitis and policeman’s heel
  • Ankle injuries such as Achilles tendonitis and recurring ankle sprains
  • Shin splints

Excessive pronation and flattened arches also result in pain and cartilage damage to your knee. Your hips and back posture may also be affected by feet that are not functioning well leading to lower back pain and hip problems.

Who do we treat?

The footfunction™ Centre treats everyone, from elite sports people to the general public, as evidence suggests that up to 80% of people would benefit from a corrective insole (prescription Orthotic). You could live your entire life with no symptoms as a result of your poor foot function or you could live in continual pain! Long periods of standing, sudden or relatively small, increases in activity or even going for a long walk on a muddy field could trigger pain as a result of your poor foot function.
Sports people, putting up to 18 times their body weight and those who put extra weight through their feet, are generally at greater risk of developing symptoms as a result of their poor foot function.

What we do

The foot function centre is a unique service, offering a podiatry-led, multi health professional, approach to the examination of foot function.
This team accesses state of the art footscan® technology and video gait analysis to assess your foot function and the relating movement of your legs and back while standing, walking and running across a 20 meter walk/run way.
The foot function clinic offers two main options for foot function analysis:

1.If you are suffering symptoms as a result of poor foot function you will be questioned and analysed by a podiatrist in relation to your pain. Your dynamic foot function will then be analysed using footscan® foot pressure technology while walking and, if appropriate, running. Your footwear will also be assessed for its suitability and wear patterns. A treatment program is then designed for your specific foot function in relation to your individual symptoms.

2.You don’t have to wait for the pain to start. If you are worried about your foot shape, flat arches etc, or are starting a new job or exercise program, or even if you simply want an ‘MOT’ for your feet we can offer a full functional screening, walking, running and even skiing, bare foot and in shoes.

How we treat you

Advice will be given to you regarding a number or issues. Possible changes to footwear may be advised to help alleviate causes of problems. The assessment may also highlight to the clinician that a stretching/strengthening programme may be required to improve the range of movement and strength within the lower limb joints and muscles.

Orthotics

Orthotics (Custom-made insole) may be prescribed by the podiatrist as the best cure for the pains that you are suffering. What are Orthotics?
